Using images on your website with a small file size is a great idea as it helps with page loading times. Sometimes, you may have received images from a photographer, or simply have a very high resolution phone camera, and these images can be very, very large in both file and dimensional size.

For a product image, around 750px square is a great size which will allow for zoom but not be too big. For images to use on your website, the size you will need will depend on the area you're adding the image to - if you have questions about the best size for a specific image, please contact us.

Cropping and resizing images may of course be done using software you already have on your computer or device. If you don't have photo editing software on your computer which can do this, you may like to try https://h5.fotor.com/

Go to this site and click on the EDIT button, then Open (at the centre top) to add your photo from your computer. Then click CROP on the left hand side menu (second from the top), select Square from the drop down menu (where freeform is the default selection) if you'd like a perfect square, or any other option you see that suits your needs for the image you're editing. Move the corners and sides of the crop grid overlaid on your image until its cropped just as you would like. The Square option will ensure the shape stays as an exact square no matter how you move and resize the grid on your image. Once you have the crop grid where you want it, click Apply to crop your image.

Then, if you need to make the image a smaller size, go to the RESIZE option in the left menu and select (type in) a smaller size (i.e. - as above, 750px would be ideal for a square product image), or choose to resize by a percentage of the original.

Once the image has been cropped and resized, click Save in the top menu. In the popup which appears, name your image, choose the file type and then click download (to save it to your computer).

Now, you have a perfectly cropped and resized image saved on your computer ready to upload to your website.
